Rebuilt for Austin’s Design-Forward, Vintage-Loving Homes
Austin has never thrown away good furniture. The walnut-frame lounge chair from an estate sale off Burnet Road, the teak-arm sofa rescued from a Hyde Park bungalow, the daybed handed down through a Travis Heights family — these pieces deserve a craftsman, not a clearance aisle. Weathersby Guild gives them a complete second life through full strip-and-rebuild reupholstery, tailored to the look you actually want.
We are upholsterers for the design-conscious city: mid-century modern silhouettes preserved to the millimeter, fabric-forward statement chairs for Tarrytown and Westlake living rooms, durable lake-house seating for Lake Travis weekends, and tech-era home-office pieces that finally match the rest of the room. Every job runs through our San Antonio workshop, with pickup and delivery handled for you.
On a mid-century piece the line is everything. We tailor fabric directly on the frame rather than sewing to a generic pattern, so welt placement, tight backs, and that low-slung profile come back exactly as the maker intended — never bulked up or boxed out.
Austin clients tend to arrive with a vision. We support it with hundreds of fabric options in-house, and we genuinely welcome customer’s own material — ship us the bolt you fell for, and we handle inspection, yardage, and pattern-matching before a single cut.
Our workshop is about 80 miles south on Marbach Lane in San Antonio. We collect your piece from anywhere in the Austin area, rebuild it under controlled conditions, and bring it home finished — so a heavy sofa never rides down I-35 in the back of a borrowed truck.
Send photos of your piece from the front, back, and side. We give you a free written estimate and walk you through fabric — choose from our hundreds of in-house options or send the COM you found at an Austin shop. We confirm exact yardage before anything is ordered.
We collect the piece from your Austin home and bring it the roughly 80 miles to our Marbach Lane workshop. There it is completely stripped — old fabric, padding, and webbing removed — so the bare frame and spring system can be fully inspected.
Frame repair is included as part of doing the job right. Loose joints are re-glued, weakened rails spliced, and corner blocks added where needed — essential on vintage and mid-century frames that have flexed for decades. Nothing is covered back up until the structure is sound.
Traditional 8-way hand-tied springs are re-tied with jute twine; fatigued modern springs are replaced. New high-density foam cores are wrapped in Dacron, with the cushion feel matched to the original — firmer or softer entirely on your call.
Fabric is cut, fitted, and stitched directly on the frame so the finished piece keeps its true lines. After a final inspection, we deliver it back to your Austin home — ready for the Hyde Park living room, the Westlake study, or the Lake Travis porch.
Yes — MCM frames are exactly what we love working with. Austin is full of teak-arm sofas, walnut-frame lounge chairs, and low-slung daybeds where the silhouette is the whole point. We strip to the frame, inspect and repair the hardwood joinery, re-tie or replace the spring system, and tailor new fabric directly on the piece so the original profile, welt placement, and tight cushion lines are preserved. Absolutely. Customer's Own Material (COM) is welcome and common with our design-conscious Austin clients. Have your fabric shipped to our San Antonio workshop and we will inspect it for flaws, calculate exact yardage, and pattern-match before any cutting. We also keep hundreds of fabric options on hand if you would rather choose from our range. Send photos of the piece and we will tell you how much yardage you need before you commit.
Our shop sits on Marbach Lane in San Antonio, roughly 80 miles south of central Austin. We pick the piece up from your Hyde Park bungalow, Travis Heights condo, Tarrytown home, or Lake Travis house, do the full rebuild at our workshop, and deliver it back when it is finished. You never have to transport an awkward sofa down I-35. To schedule a pickup window, call (210) 251-3019 or email mark@weathersbyguild.com.
For a quality vintage piece — solid hardwood frame, 8-way hand-tied springs, real joinery — reupholstery almost always wins. Those estate-sale and Austin thrift finds were built to a standard that mass retail no longer meets, and a full rebuild gives you decades more life plus a fabric and look that is entirely yours. Flimsy flat-pack frames are the exception. Send us photos and we will give you a straight answer on whether your piece is worth rebuilding. Reach us at (210) 251-3019.
Austin homeowners and designers choose Weathersby Guild for the same reasons our reviews keep landing at 4.8 stars: every reupholstery is a true strip-and-rebuild done with master craftsmanship, frame repair is part of the job rather than an add-on, and the estimate is always free and itemized before any work begins.
Send a few photos of your sofa, chair, or vintage find and we will put together a free, itemized estimate — labor, fabric, and any frame repair listed separately. Reach Mark directly at (210) 251-3019 or mark@weathersbyguild.com, and we will arrange pickup from your Austin home.
